Quartet
A Quartet in America
Encouraged by Ravel to travel to Europe to meet the artists of the day, it was in Paris that Gershwin completed the composition of An American in Paris.
Barber's Adagio, voted the saddest work ever written by the BBC in 2004, established the composer for posterity.
In his 12th quartet, Dvorak evokes America and Central Europe in parallel, the landscapes of the Great West mingling with the nostalgia of his homeland, the traditional songs recalling the blues and gospel.
